Bright Coast, Long Shadows by Bryan Angus
Bright Coast, Long Shadows is the new book from artists Bryan Angus, whose work has featured on the covers or several Thirsty Books' recent productions.
Specialising in lino printing, Bryan Angus's artwork reveals the changing weather and bright angled light of the northern edge of Aberdeenshire.
As well as exploring the local coastal landscape, Bryan also captures the architecture and building styles of the region, and he builds his town and landscapes out of textures, all skills which he has transported to Edinburgh and Africa, in designing the covers he has made for Thirsty Books.
A graduate from Gray's School of Art in the early 80s, Angus went on to establish The Creative Retreat in Gardenstown. The images Bryan makes, often only using two colours, portray the villages and sea edge of the fishing villages and towns near his home – Banff, Gardenstown, Macduff, Pennan, Sandend and Cullen.
He seems especially fond of the dramatic lighting that comes from the early and late months of the year this far north, but as you can see he can just as readily turn his hand to the closes of Edinburgh, or the deserted paths and tracks of Africa.
